Gender Affirming Name Changes
Name change in Pima County
Since 1999, SAGA has been aiding in name and gender marker changes. Tucson attorney Amrit Donaldson, along with Ann Jones—who also established Desert Sisters—began the research into statutes, crafted SAGA-specific petitions, and initiated the training of judges. In 2015, SAGA's Name Change Clinics were inaugurated in collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Law, assisting thousands of transgender and gender-expansive individuals. This page outlines the necessary steps to alter your name on your Arizona driver's license or ID card, Social Security records, U.S. passport, and Arizona Birth Certificate. For inquiries regarding birth certificates from other states, please refer to the National Center for Transgender Equality's website. As you proceed, links to download the requisite forms are available below. Please note, the information on this page is not legal advice but rather a narrative to convey the community's experience with the name change process.
